How to Handle Weight Increments at Your Gym

Not all gyms are built the same—and neither are their weight options. That’s why StrengthLab360 is designed with flexibility in mind when it comes to weight increments.

How the App Suggests Increments

The app will recommend progressive weight increases based on your performance and recovery metrics. These suggestions might include small steps like 2.5 lb or 1 kg increases—ideal for microloading and optimizing strength gains.

However, we understand that equipment availability varies. Some gyms don’t stock 1.25 lb or 0.5 kg plates, making certain jumps (e.g., 2.5 lbs or 1 kg total) impossible.

What To Do If You Don’t Have the Suggested Plates

Simple fix: If you don’t have the exact plate for the recommended increment, just enter the next available weight you do have.

✅ Example: The app suggests 67.5 kg, but you only have access to 70 kg → Enter 70 kg.
✅ Or: Can’t go up from 100 kg to 102.5 kg? Stay at 100 kg another week.

What Happens Next?

Our adaptive algorithm will take care of it.

  • If you go heavier than suggested, the app will reduce reps to maintain the right training stimulus.

  • If you stay at the same weight, the app will increase your rep target or adjust the next week’s progression to keep you improving—no wasted sessions.

This ensures that even without the “perfect” plate, you’re still progressing using smart overload techniques.
